Life update number #1: Our future home
Jonathan and I have officially signed our one-year contracts to teach at a private, Canadian-run English language school in Guangzhou, China this fall. Don’t know where Guangzhou is? We didn’t either. Here’s a map:
Ni hao, Guangzhou (廣州)!
Basically, Guangzhou is a large, industralized city about two hours outside of Hong Kong by train. It’s the third largest city after Beijing and Shanghai, but rapidly growing because of the economic opportunities available for Chinese farmers seeking factory jobs in the manufacturing districts (You know how everything in America has that ‘Made in China’ label…). Our school will be providing us with free housing, so we’re going to be right in the middle of it all.
The destination of our next adventure
We’re excited. We’re pumped. We’re scared witless by how little Chinese we know. But I can’t wait to see what it’s like to live on the other side of the world.
Life update #2: I’m headed back to NC for a bit
Due to some technicalities with my visa for China, I’ve officially booked a flight back to North Carolina. I’ll be home for about a month (Aug. 14- sometime in September), so I can’t wait to see all my lovely friends before I’m away for a year.
Blue grass, Raleigh, etc.
Expect a blog post tomorrow about my first week training as an English teacher!
